Benefit
The best thing about double sided drums is that you get two drums in one. This combination of Eb Big Bear and Db Big Bear allows you to switch back and forth between complimentary keys. Do a key change in the middle of your jam by turning the drum to the other side.
The Sun & Moon combines F mixotonic and Eb Hijaz for an amazing combination of light, positive, and jammy (Sun / F mixotonic scale) with dark and crunchy (Moon / Eb Hijaz scale). The feeling is awe-inspiring for both scales.
As with all Manastone steel tongue drums, all the notes are in scale. That means it's in perfect harmony with itself, so it's easy to make it sound good.
Sun Side
The Sun side of the drum is the F mixotonic scale. This is a truly beautiful scale that brings bliss and calm. It is easy to play and good for collaboration with other musicians. While the 9 notes on the drum remain the same, it's unique because the combinations truly feel varied. So you don't really tire of hearing it.
Moon Side
The Moon side of the drum is an Eb Hijaz scale. This scale covers an array of well-traveled tones and chord progressions. Like a moonlit camel ride, it can sound mystical, adventurous, action packed, and even spooky. It's a great drum for adding a bit of old world edginess to your surroundings. It's stimulating and interesting: the half steps build both interest and dynamics.
Fun Facts
The hijaz scale is the most common scale in North Indian classical raga music. This is the scale used on the "Moon" side of the Sun & Moon Double-sided Manastone Steel Tongue Drum.
The F mixotonic scale is used in the Grateful Dead song"Fire On The Mountain". F is considered by sound-healers to be heart-opening.

I got my F Big Bear yesterday and I can't put it down. It is absolutely beautiful. Family and friends all love it and I'm pretty sure they'll be potential customers in the near future. I played it in a public restaurant outside today and people couldn't believe what they were hearing. Many of them asked if it was electrically powered or amplified. Deep resonance has me hooked
This drum is fantastic! It's incredible, healing and meditative on it's own, but when the guitars come out the fun really starts. You can play endless Jerry Garcia style melodies on the Sun side, while the Moon side is full on flamenco, exotic, really gets you moving.
The layout of the notes is really clever. Once you get a hang of it, the layout makes it really easy to play ascending or descending lines, because you're going back and forth between your left and right hands to do adjacent scale tones.
At first I was a little surprised that the interval between the lowest two notes is a fifth, but it really gives some internal consistency to the sound and helps it hold it's own, so to speak. It keeps those higher notes sounding like jazzy kinda chord extensions. Great sound design choice.
All in all I'm extremely happy that I went with Manastone and I will definitely be buying more of these drums in the future.

Fantastic
The quality of these instruments is phenomenal. I've ordered two of them now, the second as a gift. Everyone who sees the drum on my table is immediately intrigued, and once they start playing they are hooked. It is impossible to be upset after about 5-10 mins of playing, and anyone can play. I would highly recommend one of these for anyone, for any reason.
