The Hijaz scale is the most popular scale used in North Indian Raga music.
The Big Bear scale is a Chinese minor scale called Dàxióng, which translates to "big bear" in Chinese.
Benefit
The best thing about double sided drums is that you get two drums in one. This combination of Eb Hijaz and F Big Bear allows you to switch back and forth between complimentary keys. Do a key change in the middle of your jam by turning the drum to the other side. Combining these two scales gives you a lot of versatility in sound and style, which is helpful for a variety of moods and intentions. With the Hijaz scale from Northern India, and the Big Bear Scale from China, there is an undeniable spirit of world culture and adventure embedded in the sound of this drum.
This drum covers an array of well-traveled tones and chord progressions. Like a moonlit camel ride, it can sound mystical, adventurous, action packed, and even spooky. It's a great drum for adding a bit of old world edginess to your surroundings.
Stimulating and interesting, the half steps build both interest and dynamics. As with all Manastone steel tongue drums, all the notes are in scale. That means it's in perfect harmony with itself, so it's easier to make it sound good.
F Big Bear
This scale is calming, ethereal, and mysterious making it is easy to relax with and fall asleep too. Babies and children tend to love this scale because it's soft and beautiful. It tends to sooth them and calm them when it is being played, leaving the children transfixed and curious.

The note F corresponds to the frequency of the heart chakra and is often used for opening and connecting with the energy of the heart.

I got my F Big Bear yesterday and I can't put it down. It is absolutely beautiful. Family and friends all love it and I'm pretty sure they'll be potential customers in the near future. I played it in a public restaurant outside today and people couldn't believe what they were hearing. Many of them asked if it was electrically powered or amplified. Amazingly Resonate and Superb Finish
I've owned this manastone drum for a year, now and absolutely love it. I got it in the Blue Chameleon Sparkle finish and it looks amazing in the daylight. Most importantly, the sound is fantastic and multi layered. I own a cheap tongue drum I bought at Best Buy; I knew it wouldn't compare when I bought it - had some gift cards to use up at BB so I got it on a whim. If you've only ever played cheap tank / tongue drums you're in for a treat. The cheaper ones sound like tin cans, don't really resonate nicely. It's hard to describe but the sustain on the manastone's notes is fantastic. Further, the rest of the drum sounds like a church bell so even purposeful off axis notes used to fill in your melodies sound great.
Plus, the double sided one lets you have two scales in one drum which gives you more versatility.
I will say the only caveat is you have to learn how to balance the drum nicely so you're not muting the notes.
As for Manastone as a company, I had a few questions and reached out - Nicholas is a stand up guy, very personable and helpful and clearly loves his product.
I would without hesistation, purchase another in the future and highly recommend if you're looking for a quality drum for yourself or as a gift that you get one.

Great value
I purchased this instrument to accompany Raimond Tiguls "Moonlight Sound Design" for choir. While this didn't have exact the notes needed, the scale was workable and the tone was correct for the piece. Everywhere we perform, people are curious about this unique instrument and it makes a visual impact as it is played. Very pleased with the instrument.

Best Tongue Drum!
This drum is absolutely beautiful and I can't stop playing it! The sound quality, tone, resonation, aesthetics - everything. I would highly recommend a Manastone drum for anyone interested in purchasing a tongue drum. After researching several different drum makers, the quality of a Manastone drum far exceeds many others you may find available.
